and this is why i don’t date younger men.

During a conversation with an early twenty-something guy last summer:

Me –                                                    ‘It’s not like he’s trying to be Che Guevara.”

Twenty-Something Guy –                      ‘What?  Who is that?’

Me (with an incredulous look) -          ‘Are you kidding me?’

Twenty-Something Guy –                      ‘I have no idea who that is’

Me –                                                    ‘Seriously?’

Twenty-Something Guy -                      ‘Yeah, no clue.’

Me –                                                    ‘Oh my dear child.  The educational system has failed you.’

(a brief pause while I bring up the wiki page on Che Guevara)

Twenty-Something Guy –                      ‘Oh THAT guy!  I see him all the time on people’s shirts and stuff.  I always thought that was a picture of Jesus.’

That last comment made by “Twenty-Something Guy” actually made me laugh out loud!

It was pretty damn funny, and also so, so tragic. One of those exchanges that I will never forget.

I have a crush on a 28-or 9 year old at the moment but I think he’d know who Che was. Soundgarden and old Metallica, maybe not so much, so therein lies my problem. ;) And also I might be the one who’s not grown-up enough for him.

I don’t think it’s an age thing. Just a sheltered thing. To each his own. I had this same conversation with my wife but I referenced the band ManOwar and she didn’t get it. It’s all perspective… Cool blog.

Hilarious. Found you via Five Star Friday. Youth and ignorance can be an amusing – or dangerous – combination.

Classic but this has nothing to do with age just circles of influence. I’m somewhat older (I guess you could say ‘pushing 40′) and reasonably culturally educated. But didn’t know who Che was. So give the young dude a break and encourage you younger female friends to give us old guys a break. Then maybe we’ll all be happy hey? ;)

    love it! Hilarious…

though i am twenty something myself i am well aware of Che and such information. :-)
